Renewable energy brings new challenges for the power grid. Intelligent solutions are needed to ensure stability, reliability and efficiency; and researchers need opportunities to test and improve their ideas in the real world. Grid2050 is a partnership created to explore these solutions, while empowering local utilities to play an active role in the broader energy ecosystem.  

Backed by the NCCR Automation, a national research hub, we have various ongoing projects in collaborating with Wasser- und Elektrizitätswerk Walenstadt (the local utility of Walenstadt); Edion, an energy solutions provider; and Solar Manager, a leading manufacturer of energy management systems. As Grid2050 advances, its scope will broaden to include more partners from Switzerland and beyond. In bridging the gap between research and the real world, Grid2050 is paving the way for a smart, resilient, and sustainable Swiss energy system.
